So, I have been thinking a lot about care giver sensitivity.  That area in our work as nurses and care givers where we are either aware or clueless to the personal needs of those we are helping.

Sometimes I see the most beautiful sensitivity of care givers as they enter in to the private places of patients.  Where respectfulness is obvious and comfort is a natural outcome of their care.

Then sometimes I see the most akward depersonalizing approach of care givers…it can be really disappointing…even hurtfull.  The lack of eye contact, not using your name, not hearing your need for help and really clueless to the fear we may have as we go in to a health care system.

Are we really at each other’s mercy?
