When They’re Not Ready to…

When a person is not ready to talk about their health condition and especially about an end-of-life status, several perspectives can be put in to place.

Timing:  just know there is a health crisis coming, a need for more help and or care will surface.  Ready your own mind that your routine and daily responsibilities will have to take second place at that time.  We all know illness is not convenient!

Decisions:  are you the Power of Attorney for Health decisions?  If not, who is?  Get this decision made As Soon As Possible.  You may be the one who knows this person’s wishes from talks you have had and will be their best advocate.

Attend:  going to the doctor appointments, asking questions, hearing what the patient is actually telling the medical personnel may clue you in to their reality.  Perhaps you will even be able to shed truth as to how advanced their problems are at home.

I would advise digging deep in to your bucket of compassion here.  It is rare to find people open minded when their body is needing more help.  Repetition, kindness and creative thinking will be important.

Have specific questions?  Write them on this blog and we will all learn how to help…when they’re not ready.
